Care for Mothers Project – Bringing Dignity to Motherhood

Spread the love

Motherhood is often described as a beautiful journey, but for many women in underserved communities, it comes with overwhelming emotional and financial burdens. In response, the Selcy Health Foundation initiated the Care for Mothers Project a compassionate outreach program aimed at bringing relief, support, and hope to struggling mothers.

This impactful project was carried out at five health facilities: Trauma Specialist Hospital, Gomoa Oguaa Health Centre, Gomoa Tarkwa Health Centre, Gomoa Enyeme CHPS Compound, and Ehiesm Health Centre. In total, 30 mothers were identified and supported through thoughtful donations and care-driven interventions.

The Core of the Project

The primary focus of the project was to offer direct support to mothers who had either just delivered or were undergoing challenges during childbirth. Many of these mothers were left vulnerable due to financial hardships and lack of essential maternal care.

As part of the initiative, Selcy Health Foundation provided:

  • Well-packed hampers filled with maternal and baby essentials such as diapers, baby clothing, wipes, soaps, sanitary pads, food items, and antiseptics.
  • Medical bill support to mothers who were unable to settle their postnatal or delivery-related charges, giving them peace of mind and dignity.
  • Maternal health education, with a focus on the importance of postnatal care, nutrition, hygiene, and regular health checkups.
  • Unlike other outreaches, this project did not involve health screenings but rather addressed immediate physical and financial needs with compassion and understanding.

Restoring Hope

What made this project powerful was not just what was given, but how it was given with genuine love, presence, and respect. Volunteers and team members engaged in open conversations with the mothers, offering words of encouragement, prayers, and emotional comfort.

One of the mothers at Gomoa Tarkwa Health Centre expressed her gratitude, saying,

I didn’t know anyone cared about us. This help has lifted a big burden from me. Thank you for remembering us.

These words echoed across all five centers, reminding us of the deep emotional impact simple acts of kindness can have.

Collaborative Success

The success of the Care for Mothers Project was made possible through the support of local health workers, community volunteers, and generous donors. Health professionals at each facility played a crucial role in identifying the mothers most in need and facilitating a smooth process for the visits. Selcy Foundation collaborated with Trauma Specialist Hospital, Gomoa health directorate and also partnered with Jabi Foundation and Hero Network

We are grateful for their dedication and teamwork, which enabled us to make a meaningful difference within a short time.

Looking Ahead

Selcy Health Foundation sees this initiative as the beginning of a broader mission to support maternal health across Ghana. Our long-term goal is to expand the reach of the Care for Mothers Project, deepen its educational component, and ensure no mother is left behind.
